Your data only hears people with smartphones
A cassava farmer in Ebonyi speaks her own dialect of Igbo and owns a keypad phone. Her village has signal but no clinic nearby. When an AI health or farm assistant is trained, her voice isn't in the data, because the app that collected it needed a smartphone, mobile data and the ability to type.
Smartphone-Only Samples
906 million Africans live under mobile broadband coverage but don't use mobile internet. App-based collection can't reach them.
Dialects AI Has Never Heard
Speech datasets cover only 111 of Africa's 2,000+ languages, and almost none at dialect level.
Field Teams Don't Scale
Studio and field recording reaches rural speakers, but every new language or region means more staff, travel and cost.

Spontaneous Speech
The caller talks naturally on a prompted topic for 60 to 90 seconds. This is the hardest data to source for real-world speech recognition.
Guided Revoicing
The caller hears a short sentence and says it back in their own dialect, giving aligned audio and text for ASR and TTS.
Quality Validation
The caller listens to a recording and rates it on the keypad: 1 to accept, 2 to reject. No recording needed.
